30" Outer Diameter 11.5" Inner Mirror The mystical powers of the sun and moon have always been fascinating to me. In this piece, I wanted to incorporate the physical energy that crystals and gems posses and add that healing dimension to our cosmic healers.
The Moon
Amethyst (perimeter): Opens the Third Eye and Crown chakras. Amethyst has a natural calming ability, it relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear, and anxiety. It also helps alleviates sadness and grief, and dissolves negativity (my teenager has amethyst all over her room!)
Blue Kyanite (perimeter): Opens the throat chakra, encouraging communication and self-expression. It cuts through fears and blockages, helping to speak one’s truth.
Pink Tourmaline (border): One of my favorite crystals! It is used for cleansing the emotional body of destructive feelings and old wounds accumulated over time. It releases guilt, worry, depression and anxieties, and guides those emotions into self-love.
White Topaz (moon’s eye): Unblocks the Crown Chakra and can help us in focusing during meditation and visualization. It can open us towards the energy of the universe and provides to us new courage, will, and strength to make the necessary changes in our lives.
The Sun
Carnelian: (large rays border): Used with the Base and Sacral Chakras as a stabilizing stone. Carnelian restores vitality and motivation, and stimulates creativity. (It is also a good stone for Leo’s, like myself, and I keep a hunk in my studio.)
Citrine (small rays border): Citrine energizes every level of life and is particularly healing for the Sacral, Solar Plexus, and Crown Chakras. It cleanses the chakras and opens up intuition, and imparts joy, wonder, delight and enthusiasm. (Again, as a good Leo stone, I can attest to the joy I feel when working with these gems, and I also have a hunk of citrine in my studio.)
Copper (inside border of mirror): Copper, my favorite metal to work with, benefits the Root and Sacral Chakras and improves the powers of communication. It helps with cleansing, purifying and increasing self-esteem.
Other Materials
Pearls, Czech crystal, antique German acrylic, glass Czech beads, tile, Italian silver backed mirror, and glass tiles. All tesserae set directly into thinnest mortar.
